The surging rate at which horses were dying earlier this year prompted Racing Victoria to suspend jumps racing for two weeks. Finally announcing a number of conditions to make jumps racing ' less hazardous' , Racing Victoria granted the industry its wish and allowed it to continue.
Yet despite the new regulations, horses have continued to suffer and die, with five horses being killed following the resumption of jumps racing in June.
It is inevitable that while it continues, horses will fall, sustain terrible injuries, and die.
The Australian Racing Board is meeting on the 12th September. They need to know that it is time for jumps racing to be banned once and for all.
Urgent action required:
Write to the Australian Racing Board asking them to implement an immediate and permanent ban on jumps racing at their Board meeting on the 12th September.
Send copies of your letter to the Victorian Minister for Racing, and Racing Victoria.
