About the Artist Mary Shackman is a significant Australian textile designer and artist and for over forty years her textile designs have been used by some of Australia's key fashion designers and manufacturers from Sportsgirl, Carla Zampatti, John J Hilton, Kenneth Pirrie and Mark & Geoffrey in the 1960s and 1970s to Nicola Finetti and Anthony Kendal in the 2000s. Mary describes her style as Bohemian and artistic. Her first exhibition of paintings was held at the Ken Done Gallery in 1981 and since then she has held many exhibitions at various galleries including the Volvo Gallery, the Objects Gallery, Valerie Cohen Gallery, Richard Martin Gallery, Customs House, the Millennium Hotel, Kings Cross and Mary Place, Paddington. Mary continues to create a fusion between fashion and art through creative liaisons with designers and she continues to serve as a mentor to young designers. |
