About the Artist One of Australia’s most famous Aboriginal artists, Jimmy Pike (c1940-2002) was born in a bush camp on the edge of the remote Great Sandy Desert of north Western Australia, a member of the last generation that grew up in a traditional hunting and gathering band. It wasn’t until 1981 that he was first introduced to Western style painting and discovered his talent for art, for which he has become internationally recognized. A few years later he set up his isolated camp in the desert where he painted until his death in 2002. Jimmy Pike’s works are represented in the collections of all the major Australian public galleries and museums. Piece donated by Pat Lowe. |
