About the Artist

Auckland-born Chris O’Doherty, aka Reg Mombassa, has had an illustrious and diverse career which includes forming and being part of popular rock band Mental as Anything, numerous solo and group exhibitions, freelance art and design for Mambo since 1986, and design of the Hero’s segment for the Sydney 2000 Olympics closing ceremony - to name but a few. Reg also received the 1996 ARIA (Australian Record Industry Award) for Best Australian Cover Art for Mental as Anything’s Liar, Liar Pant on Fire CD, and his art is included in the permanent collections of The National Art Gallery, Canberra, The Art Gallery of NSW and The Powerhouse Museum in NSW. In January 2007, a career retrospective of his work was held in Sydney at the SH Ervin Gallery. In March 2007 his self-portrait was selected as a finalist in the Archibald Prize.
