About the Artist

Voted one of Australia’s most collectable contemporary artists, Adam Cullen is perhaps best known for winning the Archibald Prize in 2000 for his portrait of actor David Wenham. His provocative work combines pathos and humour which plays a delicate balancing act between ‘punk brashness’ and relentless honesty. Adam is top of the Art Gallery of NSW’s Contemporary “12 hottest list” and since 1993 has had 13 solo exhibitions, 5 group exhibitions and a lengthy bibliography of art discourse behind him. Public and private collections include Art Gallery of NSW, Australian National Gallery, Canberra, The National Gallery of Victoria, The Art Gallery of SA, The Art Gallery of WA, Sir Elton John, and Labor Minister The Honourable Duncan Kerr.
