About the Artist

Tasmanian born Matthew Carney was apprenticed in 1989 to well-known Australian sculptor Stephen Walker as his assistant in bronze casting and it was here that he honed his skills in lost wax casting. During this time Matthew also completed several major public works in his own right and maintained his own studio. In the early nineties, Matthew spent four years in London, where the theatricality of his sculpture was recognized by Richard Branson and he was hired as a creative consultant to design and fit-out the interiors of Branson’s Voyager club empire. Matthew has had a number of solo exhibitions in the Soho Gallery, Sydney as well as the Salmon and Handmark Galleries.
