About the Artist In addition to having regular solo and group exhibitions, Gav Barbey has worked as a commercial sculptor, painter, film designer and film maker. Recently he has added teaching to his repertoire taking classes in drawing, film and theatre at the Art Gallery of NSW and NIDA. In 1999 Gav won the Best Cinematography award at the St. Kilda Film Festival and in 2003 was awarded the Centenary of Federation Medal for services to the arts. In 2004 Gav did the solo exhibition “Ned Kelly Hanged” in Sydney, and in 2005 “The White Album” in the Roney Gallery, Sydney. Gav’s focus is currently on his ice works and he has had two group exhibitions this year, one in the Dumbo Panelling Gallery, New York, the other at the Queen Street Studio in Sydney. Gav’s art is installed in public collections around Australia and in private collections in Hong Kong, the United States and England. |
