Below are example letters you may like to use:
Example Letter 1 Dear Department Store
I have just learned that each year more than 2 million domestic dogs and cats are brutally killed for their fur. Further, an estimated 30 million animals including foxes, mink, chinchilla, were killed in fur farms and another 8 million trapped and killed in the wild in order to satisfy growing demand for fur. Dog and cat fur has permeated the fur trim market. Neither you nor I can really know if the fur products sold in your store comes from coyotes or rabbits, or from dogs or cats. Labels simply do not disclose what kind of fur is used. And dog fur may be mixed with coyote fur on the trim of the same parka.
Without adequate truth in labelling legislation, we must suspect that any piece of fur could be dog or cat fur, regardless of what the manufacturer claims. Further, given the cruel and unnecessary means by which so many animals suffer, I ask you, please discontinue the sale of all fur in your store, including fur trim, fur decorations, and fur toys.
Example Letter 2 Dear Fashion Editor
Here is some shocking news for you: more than 2 million domestic dogs and cats are brutally killed each year by the international fur industry. Their lives are ended for the sake of fur trim and decorations. Consumers usually don't even know that they are buying dog or cat fur. Further, an estimated 30 million animals including foxes, mink, chinchilla, were killed in fur farms and another 8 million trapped and killed in the wild in order to satisfy growing demand for fur.
You might not realise it, but by promoting fur apparel you are promoting this horrific and deceptive practice. With the new millennium upon us, it is time for you to go fur-free!
Example Letter 3 Royal Thai Consulate General Level 8, 131 Macquarie Street Sydney NSW 2000 Dear Ambassador I have just learned that in Thailand domestic dogs are brutally killed for their skin, flesh, and other body parts. The leather products are exported to countries where consumers may purchase them unaware that they are purchasing the result of the pain and suffering of domestic dogs. Please stop this abominable slaughter of dogs!
Example Letter 4 Philippine Consulate General 301 George Street Sydney NSW 2000 Dear Ambassador I have just learned that domestic cats- many of them stolen pets - are brutally killed in the Philippines for their skin. The leather products are exported to countries where consumers may purchase them unaware that they are purchasing the result of the pain and suffering of domestic cats. Please stop this abominable slaughter of cats!
Example Letter 5 Consulate General of the People's Republic of China 539 Elizabeth Street Surry Hills NSW 2010 Dear Ambassador I have just learned that in China domestic dogs and cats are raised and killed for their fur. The fur products are exported to countries where consumers may purchase them unaware that they are purchasing the result of pain and suffering of domestic dogs and cats. Please stop this abominable slaughter of dogs and cats!
