Japanese whalers say NO to the shark cull

4 April 2014

Humane Society International (HSI) has today released a video in advance of tomorrow’s WA Senate election. In the video, a Japanese whaler calls for an end to the WA shark cull and asks voters to save our sharks.

The parallels between the WA shark cull and Japanese whaling are clear – both are outdated and unnecessary programs,” said HSI’s Alexia Wellbelove. “For Australia to continue to kill sharks while fighting in the international court against the killing of whales is hypocritical.”

HSI has campaigned against the killing of both sharks and whales for more than ten years. We are therefore urging voters in WA to show their support for an end to the shark cull in WA this weekend. Let’s hope that the shark culls around Australia can soon be consigned to history like whaling in Antarctica,” concluded Ms Wellbelove.
